Strickland & Holt

Yarm High Street, Stockton-On-Tees

Strickland and Holt Sketch

The refurbishment and extension of the historic Strickland & Holt store on Yarm High Street presented us with a unique challenge – to breathe new life into a beloved 1854 building while ensuring it remains a vibrant hub for the community and thrives in the modern retail landscape.

Having enjoyed a longstanding and productive relationship with the client, we have collaborated closely on several improvements and extensions to their flagship store. We are proud to have played a part in securing the future of this historic building.

Work has included renovations to the front facade, restoring its classic charm and a modern glazed extension to the rear of the building creating new retail space. Within the store a new creative hub housing small business has been created, offering a platform for local artisan craft makers to showcase their work and host regular events.

The latest addition to the store will be a first floor external terrace overlooking the entrance courtyard, providing visitors with a dedicated external events space and dining experience. This external space has been carefully designed to allow safe access from within the store along with an external glazed platform lift.
